Multi-Language Intermediate

One of Synthesia's most powerful features is the ability to translate and localize videos into 130+ languages with a few clicks. The same avatar speaks each language with native-sounding pronunciation and lip sync. This lesson covers the translation workflow, voice selection, cultural adaptation, and quality assurance.

Translation Workflow

  1. Create the source video

Build your video in the primary language (usually English). Finalize the script and visuals.

  2. Duplicate for translation

Use the "Translate" feature to create copies in target languages. Synthesia auto-translates the script.

  3. Review translations

Have native speakers review and edit the auto-translated scripts for accuracy and cultural fit.

  4. Select voices

Choose appropriate voices for each language. Consider gender, age, and accent matching.

  5. Generate all versions

Batch render all language versions. The avatar's lip movements adjust to each language.

Cultural Adaptation

Beyond Translation: Localization is more than translating words. Consider adapting examples, humor, idioms, and references for each culture. A sports analogy that works in the US may not resonate in Japan. Update on-screen text, currency symbols, and date formats for each locale.

Voice Selection Tips

European20+ per major languageMatch formality level to audience
Asian10+ per major languageConsider regional dialects (Mandarin vs Cantonese)
Middle Eastern5+ per languageRight-to-left text in on-screen elements

Quality Assurance

Always have native speakers review the final rendered video, not just the script. Check that pronunciation is natural, lip sync is convincing, and the pacing feels right. Build a QA checklist for each language and track issues across iterations.
